The ESA Business Incubation Centre (BIC) Switzerland, powered by the European Space Agency (ESA) and one of the world’s leading universities: ETH Zurich, offers broad support packages to entrepreneurs and start-up companies to exploit space systems or technologies and help them to develop their non-space business on earth, or conversely to use a technology from earth in a space related application.

Strain gauge device and equipment with such strain gauge devices

The strain gauge device comprises an elastic band, the strain of which is to be measured. The sensor comprises at least one elongated measuring strand (38) changing resistivity in dependence of the strain of the band. The measuring strand is mounted with pre-tension to the band by means of a layer of glue disposed between the sensor (26) and the band. The equipment for continually measuring the blood pressure of a user comprises at least one strain gauge device.

Equipment and Method for Continually Measuring the Blood Pressure for Monitoring Purposes

The equipment has at least one pressure sensor disposed for being placed onto the surface of the body of the user and being held attached thereto by means of a band. The attach­ment force is selected such that the pressure signal from the pressure sensor contains variations caused by the pulse. An attachment pressure sensor or a band tension sensor generates an electrical signal depending on the attach­ment pressure. The microprocessor determines the dias­tolic and systolic blood pressure values from the pressure signal, taking into account the signal from the attachment pressure sensor or the band tension sensor).
